What kinds of fruit can you put into fresh fruit popsicles?

You can add pretty much any fruit to these ice pops! So take a look inside your fridge to see what you have!

Here’s a list of fruits that you can try:

  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • peaches
  • kiwis
  • raspberries
  • apple
  • orange
  • watermelon
  • mango
  • cherries
  • pineapple
  • nectarines
  • blackberries
  • grapefruit
  • bananas
  • plums
  • melon

Some fruits are naturally sweeter than others. So if you’re making your popsicles with a fruit like blackberries or grapefruit that tend not to be very sweet, you might want to add a tablespoon or two of sugar or honey into the juice before you add it to the mold.

What kind of popsicle molds do you need?

Any kind of popsicle mold that’s big enough to fit chopped fruit will work to make fruit popsicles.

We recommend using a mold that has flat sides so the fruit can press right up against the sides of the mold. The main benefit is that you’ll be able to see the fruit more clearly on the side of the popsicle when the juice freezes – which really just makes them look prettier.

What kind of juice works best for homemade fruit popsicles?

Clear juices like apple juice, grape juice, lemonade or even cranberry juice work really nicely in homemade fruit popsicles. Orange juice will also work, but it might hide the fruit a little bit when it freezes.

No juice? You can also use milk, iced tea, or clear soda like Sprite, or ginger ale.

They’re sofresh and summery! And did I mention that they taste amazing too? A sweet berry combination of summer flavours and a great way to stay cool!

How to Make Fruit Popsicles

When you’re making your popsicles, try to fill each mold with as much fruit as you can get into it. Make sure you have two layers of fruit – one on each side of the mold. Use a popsicle stick to push the fruit to one side of the mold so you can add more to other side. Just work it all in there.

Then you can use blueberries and raspberries to fill in the empty spaces. Ours were definitely overflowing with fruit when we were done!

The more pressed against the side you can get the fruit, the better it will look in the end! It’s okay for it to not be perfect – it really won’t make a huge difference – just do your best to pack as much fruit inside as you can!

Notes

You should have two layers of fruit (one for each side of the mold), so it should be fairly easy to get the popsicle sticks into each mold before you freeze them. The fruit will hold the sticks in place, so they don't need to be supported with anything.

Real fruit popsicles take a little longer than regular popsicles to melt. So when you’re eating them, the fruit can still be a bit hard as it’s melting. It took us a good 20 minutes to finish our fruit salad ice pops.
