Murray on court for what could be last-ever match

Sir Andy Murray and Dan Evans are on court at Roland Garros to take on Japanese pair Kei Nishikori and Taro Daniel.

In case you didn't know, it's Murray's final tournament before retiring so a loss would mean the end of his illustrious career.

The Scot has tasted Olympic glory twice before, winning singles gold in London and Rio.

The Olympics is played on a best of three-set format.

The match is Evans' second today, as he played - and won - in the singles event earlier.

Murray, 37, has struggled with injuries in the final years of his career and has decided to call it a day after etching himself into British tennis history with two Wimbledon wins and a US Open triumph.

Kimberley Woods wins bronze for Team GB

Kim Woods has claimed bronze after a run of 98.94 seconds in the kayak K1 slalom final.

Australia's Jessica Fox won gold with 96.08 seconds and Poland's Klaudia Zwolinska got the silver with 97.53 seconds.

It was a nail-biting finish as Woods had to wait for the final competitor to go before her bronze was confirmed.

However Germany's Ricarda Funk - the fastest qualifier - slipped up and ended up outside the medals, triggering celebrations in the GB camp.

There could be more glory for Woods later in the week - she's world champion in kayak cross, an event making its Olympic debut this year.

The 28-year-old, from Rugby, debuted at the Olympics in Tokyo and came 10th.

Nadal comes through opener - and plays Novak next

Tennis legend Rafael Nadal has come through a tricky opener against Hungary's Marton Fucsovics 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to set up a second-round clash with Novak Djokovic.

Many fans will have been hoping for the two men to meet, but perhaps not quite so early in the competition.

Tennis player pulls out after 'catching cold from Paris rain'

Ukrainian tennis player Anhelina Kalinina has withdrawn from the Games because she caught a cold from the rainy weather in France's capital, according to her country's Olympic committee.

The opening ceremony will live long in the memory as a complete wash-out, with competitors donning ponchos as they waited for their chance to sail down the Seine.

The rain continued to bucket down on Saturday but things finally turned today, with the French capital enjoying some much-needed sun.

Kalinina's rain-delayed match at Roland Garros was meant to take place today.

"Unfortunately, we spent a long time on the courts yesterday waiting for the competition to start," said Kalinina.

"It was raining all this time and this morning I felt a sore throat."

"I was very upset," she added, "because it was a big dream and honour for me to play at the Olympics and represent my country, especially in such a difficult time."

Medal chance coming up for Kimberley Woods

GB's Woods goes in the final of the women's kayak slalom, which starts at 4.45pm, after negotiating the course third-fastest in the semis.

She's 10th on the start list at the at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.

Britain stay in pole position for eventing gold

Tom McEwen, Laura Collett and Ros Canter have stayed top of the team Eventing leaderboard after today's cross-country event at Chateau de Versailles.

They were already first after the dressage yesterday and will attempt to finish things off tomorrow in the showjumping.

Collett is also in silver medal spot in the individual standings, picking up just a 0.8 penalty for a time fault today, and lies behind Germany's Michael Jung.

"It was amazing," said the Cheltenham rider.

"The crowds out there were unbelievable from start to finish, it was such a buzz. London is my horse of a lifetime, he is just incredible."

McEwen stays sixth after a clear run on Sunday, and Canter 24th.

However, Team GB are appealing Canter's 15 penalties and if successful she would climb to fifth overall.

Dan Evans wins - but Katie Boulter goes out

Team GB's Dan Evans has beaten Moez Echargui from Tunisia 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, taking the match in the deciding set.

He'll be playing with Sir Andy Murray later in the first round of the doubles - a loss would mean the end of the Scot's career as he's said this is his last ever pro tournament.

They're last on court today against a Japanese pairing and probably won't be up for another couple of hours.

Jack Draper also came through the first round relatively easily earlier, beating Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-4.

However it was heartbreak for Britain's Katie Boulter, our only player in the women's singles, who lost 6-4-6-2 against Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

She'll get another go at a medal though, as she's partnering Heather Watson in the doubles.

Boxer suspended after failing doping test

A Nigerian boxer has been kicked out of the Paris Olympics after being provisionally suspended for failing a drugs test.

Cynthia Ogunsemilore was due to fight tomorrow, but the 22-year-old African Games lightweight champion tested positive for the diuretic furosemide in a sample taken on Thursday.

Furosemide is a masking agent that can hide the presence of other drugs.

She has the right to challenge the ban and request her "b-sample" be analysed.

It's understood she was told yesterday about the result of the test.

"The athlete has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the International Olympic Committee Anti-Doping Rules," the International Testing Agency said.

Ogunsemilore won the African Games title in her weight class last year and took bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

It is the second positive doping test announced at the Paris Olympics. Iraqi judoka Sajjad Sehen tested positive for two anabolic steroids, the ITA said Friday.

Is Simone Biles injured?

She may have dominated qualifying alongside the US women's gymnastics team today, but limping, strapping and medical treatment suggests Simone Biles may be injured - raising concerns for fans of the consensus greatest of all time gymnast.

Biles was seen limping on her left leg with strapping on her ankle, while her coach said she was suffering from a calf issue after the session.

Cecile Landi said only that Biles' injury was minor and that it had been bothering her for a couple of weeks.

Crucially, there was no discussion of sidelining the seven-time Olympic medallist.

Biles appeared to tweak the leg while warming up for the floor exercise, leaving with Team USA doctor Marcia Faustin in what was an eerily similar scene to what played out in Tokyo - when Biles dropped out of the team competition to protect her safety.

Her apparent physical difficulties did not hold her back however, as she earned the highest score on floor and vault through two subdivisions.

She was seen to limit the difficulty of her uneven bars routine, skipping a unique skill she submitted to the International Gymnastics Federation on Friday.

Instead, she did her usual set to score a 14.333, then tried to keep from putting too much weight on her leg following her dismount.

She's next expected to compete on Tuesday in the team final, before some individual events later next week.

Biles has said she won't be checking X during the Olympics to avoid any negative online chatter. However, she told NBC News she would still be using Instagram and TikTok.

"Insta is good. It’s a good way to connect," she said. "It’s a way to share what we’re going through. And TikTok. I’ve tried to make a little more TikToks, I’m not the greatest at that. I’m learning."

Mountain biking taking place at highest point in Paris

Today's mountain biking event is under way, with the women taking part competing for one of 13 gold medals up for grabs on day two of Paris 2024.

They're racing around a course on Elancourt Hill - the highest point in the Paris region at 231m above sea level.

It's renowned for its outstanding views, and organisers have taken care to ensure minimum disruption to the environment.

95% of the trails for the Olympic mountain bike events - which were designed by South African expert Nick Floros - are based on existing (but man-made) paths, according to Paris 2024.

The courses will remain after the Olympics for public use.

Athletes received the course with mixed reactions, with some expressing concerns about loose gravel on the entirely man-made track.
